Understanding pimples on the face
Pimples have invaded a specific part of your face (cheeks, chin, forehead...), and you have no idea what might have caused them to appear? Face mapping can help you understand the causes of these acne outbreaks! We explain what this technique, derived from traditional Chinese medicine, is all about, why it's an interesting way to better understand your body, and what solutions you can implement to regain healthy, beautiful skin.

What is facemapping?
Acne is often caused by a poor lifestyle, increased stress, a polluted environment or hormonal upheaval. Face mapping helps you identify the cause of your skin imperfections. The principle is simple: in Chinese medicine, each area of the face is linked to an organ. If one of these areas is covered with imperfections, there's a good chance that the associated organ is experiencing an imbalance or dysfunction.
Face mapping divides the face into seven zones:
The front
If pimples are appearing on your forehead, you may have been overdoing it lately. The forehead is linked to the digestive system, which obviously has trouble eliminating toxins. So leave the fatty, salty and sugary foods behind, and focus on fruit and vegetables to restore flawless skin.
Note that if you wear bangs, rubbing the hair can increase sebum production and prevent pores from breathing, resulting in small white spots.
Between the eyebrows
The problem may lie with the liver. Perhaps you've been drinking too much alcohol lately, in which case a little skin detox should help bring your skin back into balance.
Another possibility is a food intolerance or allergy that your body is signalling through this rash.
On the temples
The kidneys are often to blame! Remember to drink plenty of water, keep well hydrated throughout the day, and put aside alcohol and coffee for a while to give them a little boost.
On the cheeks
Red spots on your cheeks and cheekbones for no apparent reason often reflect a problem with your lungs. The solution? Oxygenate, stop smoking if necessary, remember to clean your make-up brushes and keep your pillowcase perfectly clean - two objects in contact with the cheeks, which are often the seat of bacteria. And don't forget to disinfect your phone laptop screens.
Pimples on the cheeks can also reflect asthma or eczema.
On the nose
One possible explanation for pimples on the nose is high cholesterol levels. Limit your intake of unhealthy fats for a while, and you'll be back on track!
On the lower face
If red pimples suddenly appear on your jawline or jawline, your body may be experiencing a hormonal imbalance. The lower face is associated with hormone production and the female cycle, and it's not uncommon for these imperfections to appear around the time of menstruation.
On the chin
Acne on the chin is a sign of hormonal imbalance, or a small problem with the stomach.
What can be done to treat these pimples?
In the first instance, you can rely on face mapping to give your body and skin a helping hand: rebalancing your diet, eating more fruit, vegetables and Omega 3s, and reducing alcohol and tobacco consumption are all easy tips to implement on a daily basis for a healthy lifestyle. And, of course, avoid touching pimples or bringing your hands constantly to your face to avoid aggravating the problem or risking infection.
Of course, if the rash is accompanied by redness, itching, patches, fever or other symptoms, it's best to consult a GP or dermatologist as soon as possible to make sure it's not related to a well-known skin condition such as rosacea or urticaria, which require specific treatment.
In the bathroom, you can opt for a targeted beauty routine with anti-acne skincare products, such as those in our Northern Light range.
